We’re inviting poetry and creative writing submissions inspired by a book that is meaningful to you. This could be a piece that responds directly to the book, is inspired by its themes or writing style, or creatively reimagines a character, moment, or idea from the text. The approach is very open, and we welcome personal, reflective, playful, or imaginative responses.

These pieces will accompany two new murals inspired by Burnley’s love of books and will be displayed in a public space. We welcome submissions covering a wide range of tones and subject matter, while being mindful that the work will be encountered by people of all ages and backgrounds.

What happens next

Selected pieces will be displayed alongside the murals, which will be unveiled at Burnley Central Library on World Book Night, 23rd April. World Book Night will also serve as the launch of the exhibition and as part of a wider event inviting people to come together to discuss books and reading. This is an unpaid opportunity, but all contributors will be fully credited.
