We are delighted to be sharing the message below from the Burnley ViewPoint Volunteer Editorial team.
We did it! £4,678 of a £4662 target reached (we went over)!
This means we are able to go ahead the Hidden Stories of Burnley Project with the Burnley ViewPoint Magazine. And we are stoked about what is to come.
This means over the course of the coming months, we will be:
- Printing and distributing 1000 copies of The Burnley ViewPoint Magazine for FREE.
- Delivering at least 4 free journalism workshops in the local area, ranging from journalistic storytelling ideals to interview techniques (and more)
- Gathering and publishing 10 untold stories of Burnley
- Signing-up 7 new local writers
- Commissioning a local early career designer to help create the printed magazine
When we launched the campaign, we had a slight worry that it would be difficult to find the financial backing we needed. However, we didn’t expect such a huge response. So, thank you to every single person who donated, shared, encouraged us, and believed in us.
This isn’t just 5k we raised; it is local support. It shows there is a desire for the thing we have made. And we are able to take this success to show this proof of concept to even more funders and do even more things with the Burnley ViewPoint.
Burnley is full of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We are glad to be able to offer this space where their voices can be heard. We hope to do right by the ordinary people of Burnley and record their stories with the care they deserve.
