Event Type

Our Local Writers Night is a warm, welcoming evening of live writing, open to both performers and audiences.

Across the night, writers share short readings of poetry, spoken word and prose, with each performer taking the stage for around five minutes. The event is fast-paced, varied and supportive, making it just as enjoyable to watch as it is to take part.

Want to perform?
Performance slots are booked in advance via a simple sign-up form. We aim to make space for as many people as possible, and everyone gets an equal slot on the night. Whether it’s your first time reading in public or you’re an experienced writer trying out new work, you’re very welcome.
Spaces can fill up, so a waiting list may operate, and performers are usually confirmed around two weeks before the event.

Just want to come along?
You don’t have to be a writer to attend. Many people come simply to listen, support friends, or enjoy an evening of live writing in a relaxed atmosphere. You’re very welcome to come on your own, and we encourage audiences to stay for the whole night so every reader has the same supportive crowd.

Tickets are Pay What You Decide. Please book a ticket in advance. You can reserve a free ticket and pay on the night, or donate in advance if you’d prefer.
