Sami is a quiet boy who does not enjoy going to school, but things begin to change when a new boy, Gamba, joins his class. When Sami sees Gamba being teased, will he be brave enough to find his voice and speak up? Speak up Sami is an empowering story about courage, kindness and friendship. A heartwarming book to enjoy at home or in the classroom, providing opportunities to have meaningful discussions around bullying, diversity and celebrating differences.
Join picture book author, Shabana Hussain as she inspires, entertains, and educates young ones to be more kind and tolerant, and guides them to use their voice for good through her debut book “Speak Up Sami.” There will be an opportunity for Q&A as well as purchasing signed copies of her book.
The follow-on workshop centered around the themes of bullying and kindness will give children the opportunity to discuss the main parts of the story, reflect on what it means to be a good friend, create their own posters around kindness, and showcase their learning.
Aimed at children aged 4 and over.
This session is free to attend/Pay What You Decide but we recommend saving your seat in advance to avoid disappointment! Every child who attends will also receive a free copy of one of Shabana’s books!

About the Author
Shabana Hussain is a secondary school teacher from Lancashire. Passionate about representation, she writes faith-inspired, diverse picture books. She hopes her books will help children feel seen and heard, make little readers more tolerant of each other and spread kindness. When she’s not writing, Shabana can be found doodling, singing or playing her daff (drum). She may also be munching on a secret stash of chocolate goodies which she claims fuels her imagination!
