Join local artist and Writer Ajaz Qureshi for a gentle, reflective walk exploring our relationship with nature and place.
We’ll start at Finsley Gate Wharf (The Inn at the Wharf or the incredible Exbury Egg – a floating sculpture inspired by cycles of nature –) before taking a short walk across the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, along the famous straight mile, to Burnley’s Thompson Park.
Along the way, we’ll pause to reflect, notice, and share. You’ll be invited (but not expected) to read something aloud.
The walk will be gentle and sociable. Expect nature, conversation, and poetry. Free handouts and canal-themed materials available on the day.
This event is open to anyone who loves the idea of walking, talking, and creating.
Why Come?
- Because stories live in places — and maybe there’s one waiting out there for you.
- Because we’ll walk, wonder, and maybe share something we didn’t know we had in us.
- Because sometimes, a quiet walk and a blank page are all you need.
- Because you’ll get some fresh air, meet some like-minded folk, and maybe gain some fresh perspectives.
- Because you don’t need to be a ‘writer’ to write.
- Because you may just leave with a masterpiece (or the beginning of one).
Because it’s free, and there’ll be tea, coffee, and poetry!
Interested in writing your own poetry inspired by our local landscape? This is the second of two events Ajaz is running as part of this year’s festival, the first is a writing workshop on Thursday 15th May, ‘Writing The Waterways.’ Why not come along, pen your own poetry and then join the walk and share your words?
This event is Pay What You Decide on the day, but spaces are limited, so we recommend saving your spot in advance by booking a ticket here: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/burnley-words/t-eaegnkp
