The Queen Street Mill Young Creatives and The Burnley Mechanics Front Room Promoters are working with Burnley Words Festival to create an exhibition of local writers’ work, inspired by the Mill and Burnley’s industrial heritage and the surrounding landscape.
We are looking for short stories, poetry and creative pieces to go on display in the Community Room at Queen Street Mill in September. We will also be hosting a Local Writers Night and Exhibition Launch at the Mill, Thursday 4th September, inviting writers to share their pieces on stage.
This project is running alongside The Burnley ViewPoint and pieces submitted to the exhibition may also be considered for their Autumn printed version of the online magazine. We will contact you directly before using your work for the magazine. You can find out more about The Burnley ViewPoint and their call-out and submission process here: https://burnleywordsfestival.co.uk/submissions-open-for-the-burnley-viewpoint/

FAQs
- Can I submit more than one piece? You can submit a maximum of two pieces. Only one will be selected for the final exhibition, and we ask that you submit the two pieces in the same email.
- Do I have to currently live in Burnley to submit? No, but the piece you submit must connect to Burnley and the theme of this callout.
- Can I submit a piece even if I don’t want to / can’t perform at the exhibition opening? Yes, we hope that everyone who has submitted a piece and had a piece selected for the final exhibition attends the opening night, but we understand that not everyone will want to perform or be able to attend in person.
Can I submit in another format? We want to make our submission process as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. If you would like to submit in another format, please call the Mechanics Box office 01282 664400 and leave a message with a member of the team for Stephie Jessop
