Catherine Simpson has written two memoirs: One Body, about growing up and growing older in a woman’s body – including her experience with breast cancer – and When I Had a Little Sister, about the death by suicide of her sister, Tricia. She has also published a novel, Truestory, inspired by raising her autistic daughter, Nina.

In Telling Your Own story (Or Writing from Real Life) Catherine will discuss the pros and cons of using lived experience in your writing, including issues of privacy, what to include and what to leave out, how to tackle the most difficult issues, and how to make the personal universal.

Catherine was born on a Lancashire farm and now lives in Edinburgh. One Body was short listed in the Scottish National Book Awards.
